What personal data SiltaNova collects, why, and what your choices are.

Last updated: 2 Oct 2026.

Who is responsible for your data?

SiltaNova is published by Afshin Hosseingholinezhad, a private individual based in Lahti, Finland. He is the data controller for this website and its newsletter. For any privacy question or request, write to privacy@siltanova.com.

What does SiltaNova collect, in short?

  • If you only read the site: you need no account, and we show no advertising and build no profile of you.
  • If you sign up for the newsletter: we store your email address.
  • Visit statistics: we count page views without cookies and without identifying you.
  • If you email us: we receive what you send.

What happens when you sign up for the newsletter?

When you sign up for The Silta Weekly we collect your email address and the time you confirmed it. You must confirm through a link we email you before you are added to the list.

The newsletter is sent with Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France), which stores the list for us. Brevo records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, so that we can see what readers find useful.

We process this data because you consented. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you. After you unsubscribe we stop emailing you and keep only a record that the address unsubscribed, so that we do not add it again by mistake.

Does SiltaNova use cookies and analytics?

SiltaNova itself sets no cookies, and it has no advertising or tracking scripts. Cloudflare, which protects the site, may set a strictly necessary security cookie in rare cases, for example while it checks a suspicious request.

To see how many people read the site and which articles are read, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It stores nothing in your browser, uses no cookies, does not follow you from one site to another and builds no profile of you. It records the page you opened, the site you came from, your country, your browser and device type, and how fast the page loaded. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding which articles are useful.

What is stored in your browser?

One small setting is kept in your browser's local storage: your choice of light or dark theme. It is not a cookie and is never sent to us.

What do hosting and security involve?

The site is delivered by Cloudflare. To deliver pages and protect the site against attacks, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address and browser details. We rely on our legitimate interest in running a secure website.

Images in our articles are delivered by Sanity, our content system, so your browser also connects to Sanity's servers when a page contains images.

Search runs in your browser. We do not record what you search for.

What about embedded video?

Videos are hosted on YouTube. A video loads only when you press play, and we use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode. Once you press play, Google receives your IP address and may store data in your browser under its own privacy policy.

What happens when you email us?

If you write to us, we keep your message for as long as it takes to deal with it, and normally no longer than 24 months. Our email addresses are forwarded by Cloudflare to a mailbox provided by Google.

Who else receives your data?

We share data only with the service providers named on this page: Brevo, Cloudflare, Sanity and Google (for our mailbox, and for YouTube once you play a video). We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for advertising.

Some of these providers are based in the United States. Where data is transferred outside the EU and EEA, it is protected by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified under it, and otherwise by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

What are your rights?

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation you can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • correct or delete it;
  • restrict how we use it, or object to our use of it;
  • send it to you in a portable format.

You can withdraw your consent to the newsletter at any time. Write to privacy@siltanova.com and we will answer within one month.

If you think we have handled your data wrongly, you can complain to the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman in Finland (tietosuoja.fi).

Will this page change?

We update this page whenever what we do with personal data changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
